Treatment
Thin lithium disilicate shells bonded to the front of the teeth to correct shape, colour, small gaps and minor crowding. €250 per unit, with a try-in before anything is finished.
A veneer is a thin ceramic shell, roughly the thickness of a contact lens, bonded to the front surface of a tooth. It changes colour, shape, length and the alignment of the visible edge without touching the back of the tooth. E-max, a pressed lithium disilicate, is used because it is translucent like enamel and strong enough to be bonded in very thin sections.
Veneers are not a treatment for crooked teeth in the orthodontic sense; grinding down healthy teeth to disguise a bite problem is a poor trade and we will suggest aligners first. They are also unsuitable on teeth with large existing fillings, where a crown is the honest answer, and on an untreated grinding habit until a night guard is in place. Active gum disease is treated before any veneer is made.
A visible smile is usually six to ten upper teeth. Doing only the two central incisors is possible but the hardest to match, because the eye compares them directly with the neighbours. We will show you the difference on the design before you decide.
Do not open packaging or bite nails with them. Coffee, tea and red wine do not stain the ceramic but will stain the natural teeth around it, so keep the shades together with regular hygiene visits. A night guard is essential if you grind.
FAQ
Preparation removes between 0.3 and 0.7 mm of enamel, and it is irreversible. That is a real trade-off and worth thinking about. Where the teeth are already worn or heavily bonded, very little healthy tissue is removed.
Ten to fifteen years typically, longer with careful use. The most common reason for replacement is chipping from grinding or trauma, not material failure.
Only if you choose them to. Shade, translucency and edge shape are agreed at the design and try-in stage. We will tell you when a shade is going to look unnatural for your face and age.
Whiten first, then match the veneers to the new shade. Ceramic does not respond to whitening gel.
